The Total Quality System provides the framework for quality in all aspects of our daily operations. The system is the sound basis for certificates obtained for product quality (ISO 9001), environment (ISO 14001), occupational health and safety (OHSAS 18001) and the Yara Sluiskil Occupational Health Service (in accordance with Dutch legislation). In addition, our food grade products have been audited using HACCP methodology (CO2 production, ISO 22000). The further development/optimization of product stewardship and security will also fit into the TQS framework.
Environmental four-year plans have been agreed upon with the regional authorities of the Province of Zeeland. The major topics of this Site Policy Plan, i.e. the installation of de-NOx units in our nitric acid plants 6 and 7 and the upgrading of our power plant (the latter resulting in a substantial reduction of thermal load to the Ghent Terneuzen Canal) were successfully implemented.
More recently de-N2O technology was implemented in both nitric acid plants and the supply of waste heat to greenhouses was agreed. Both resulted in a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. A reduction of Sluiskil’s ammonia exports resulting in lower transportation risk (high on the agenda of the Dutch national government) was facilitated with the agreement to build a new urea 7 solution plant.
The results of the environmental policy are communicated to the public's advisory panel on a regular basis.
